Amy: An online figure drawing session

Lizet Dingemans

Join Lizet for a figure drawing in pastel pencil on brown paper, beginning with a quick “flesh sphere” test to choose a skin-tone palette. The pose is blocked in with simple landmarks, then shaded with walnut brown—saving black for the deepest cools. Edges take centre stage: soft for turning forms, sharp for cast shadows, echoing Sargent’s touch. Layers of beige, sanguine, and white build light and warmth, while cooler mixes and the paper tone shape the lower body. Blending stumps refine the forms, and subtle colour shifts suggest detail without outlines. Materials: pastel pencils (black, white, beige, sanguine, walnut brown), brown paper, blending stumps, eraser.
