Mark t: An online portrait drawing session
Lizet Dingemans
Sunday 25 January, 2026 at 4 PM (UK time). FREE!

Join Lizet Dingemans for this month’s free one hour graphite portrait session with model Mark T, looking at comparative measuring, structure and edgework. We’ll begin with a light block-in to place the head, centre line and main proportions, then build the features step by step before developing the values. The focus is on controlling edges, knowing when to keep things sharp and when to soften, and using light and shadow to describe form. You’ll see how to keep detail quiet in the shadows, lift back into the beard for texture, and finish with a few well placed accents and highlights.
Materials used:
- Graphite pencils and sticks (H, HB, B, 3B to 4B)
- White paper
- Grey kneaded or putty eraser
- Blending tools such as finger, stump, soft brush, tissue or kitchen roll
This session mimics the structure of a traditional life drawing class. You will see one or more photographs to draw or paint from. Tutor Lizet Dingemans will be doing an online demonstration next to the video and will be giving hints and tips in the live chat.
Once you have registered you will be sent a link to a private web page where you will be able to access the live stream at the date and time of broadcast. You will also have access to the video for 30 days after the session, and will be able to download the photographs used in the session so you can continue to work in your own time.
If you're planning on watching more than one session a month then you will save money with a subscription. If you already have a Raw Umber Subscription then you can access this session from your account.
