Amy J: An online figure drawing session

For this week’s 1 hour figure session, Lizet will be experimenting with mark making, playing with line quality and allowing space for mistakes while using pastel to capture a light impression of the figure. Rather than aiming for a tight finish, the focus is on responding to what you see, keeping the drawing open and adjusting as you go. You will see how different marks can suggest structure, light and movement, using softer and firmer touches to guide the eye. Charcoal is used to anchor the drawing, while pastel builds the lighter areas and helps keep the overall feel loose and atmospheric. Materials Soft pastels: light yellow, medium orange, dark orange, light pink, medium pink, dark brown Charcoal Brown toned paper This session mimics the structure of a traditional life drawing class. You will see one or more photographs to draw or paint from. Tutor Lizet Dingemans will be doing an online demonstration next to the video and will be giving hints and tips in the live chat.
