Urban Landscape Painting in Acrylic, with Hashim Akib
Join me for an in-depth three-day workshop of ‘Sunlit Trees and Landscapes’ in acrylics. Using vibrant colours along with Impressionistic brushstrokes, we’ll recreate various landscapes with trees and light as the main focus.
Along with short demonstrations there’ll be plenty of one to ones to access your own personal goals. You’ll produce several artworks based on the theme with new skills to take forward. You’ll also discover the best and most practical ways of using acrylics with emphasis on self expression, colour with less obsessive drawing.
The course is suitable for beginners or more experienced painters, just bring along an open mind. We will mainly be studio based working from photographic references which will be supplied.
Please note: We will mainly be studio-based, working from photographic references, but if the weather is favourable, we can head outside to do some quick sketching.

Course Structure
Day 1 - On day one you’ll be provided an overview of the advantages of acrylic painting and as an introduction to mark making shown examples of how Impressionist/ Post Impressionist artists painted landscapes and trees. We will employ some of these techniques using limited colours to replicate some simple landscapes.
Day 2 - On day two you’ll be shown how to replace tonal values for colour temperature. There will be an emphasis on using dominant colours, under mixing pigment and minimal layering. We will utilise complementary colours to create dramatic colour schemes and consider bolder mark making statements.
Day 3 - On day three we will look at colour choices and consider painting strategies before tackling a longer, more involved painting. You’ll be shown the finishing details, when to stop with advice on varnishing, presentation and framing your artworks.
