Upcoming online sessions
We run regular, tutored online drawing sessions. They’re a great way to carve out a time to focus on your art each week. We run portrait drawing sessions every Sundays at 4 PM (UK Time) and figure drawing on Wednesdays at 8 PM (UK Time). A tutor joins us, does a demonstration and gives hints and tips. At the end of the session you can share your work with the group for feedback and we give you a link so you can download the photographs and continue working on your drawings.
Portrait sessions are free on the last Sunday of the month. Otherwise, sessions cost $6.50 each, or you can subscribe for only $12 a month. For a FREE taster session of your choosing, sign up below
“This is the best drawing instruction I’ve seen anywhere” – Miriam Danar
Wednesday 5 November, 2025 at 8 PM (UK time)
Join Lizet for a figure drawing in pastel pencil on brown paper, beginning with a quick “flesh sphere” test to choose a skin-tone palette. The pose is blocked in with simple landmarks, then shaded with walnut brown—saving black for the deepest cools.
Edges take centre stage: soft for turning forms, sharp for cast shadows, echoing Sargent’s touch. Layers of beige, sanguine, and white build light and warmth, while cooler mixes and the paper tone shape the lower body. Blending stumps refine the forms, and subtle colour shifts suggest detail without outlines.
Materials: pastel pencils (black, white, beige, sanguine, walnut brown), brown paper, blending stumps, eraser.
This session will start in 14 hours, 32 minutes' time.
Sunday 9 November, 2025 at 4 PM (UK time)
Join Luca for a graphic portrait demo focused on shape, gesture, and composition. He blocks in the figure, maps facial landmarks, and uses diagonals to drive the layout. Large graphite shapes set value, while paper holds lights and selective red accents. Edge control, cross-hatching, and dry-brush hair bring form to life. Finished with a red, white, and black watercolour wash.
Materials used: HB, 2B, 9B graphite pencils on Stonehenge white paper 11 x 14 in. Mars plastic eraser, Faber-Castell pencil eraser, Tombow Mono Zero eraser. Cadmium red watercolour tube (Winsor & Newton), watercolour brush.
This session will start in 4 days' time.
