Mark Turner: An online figure drawing session

Join tutor Luca Indraccolo for a figure-drawing session with model Mark T, focused on building solid fundamentals on dark brown toned paper. You’ll start with a simple block-in to nail proportion and gesture, then shift into mass drawing to shape the forms. The toned paper gives you a built-in mid-value, so you can push lights, deepen shadows, and use background shading to clean up edges.

As you draw, watch your shapes, track the plane changes—especially in the head—and stay mindful of cast vs. form shadows. Keep props soft so the figure stays the focus. Work the whole drawing together, then refine rhythms in the hands and legs. And above all, take your time; speed isn’t the goal!

This session mimics the structure of a traditional life drawing class. You will see one or more photographs to draw or paint from. Tutor Luca Indraccolo will be doing an online demonstration next to the video and will be giving hints and tips in the live chat.

Once you have registered, you will be sent a link to a private web page where you will be able to access the live stream at the date and time of broadcast. You will also have access to the video for 30 days after the session, and will be able to download the photographs used in the session so you can continue to work in your own time.
